Role Description: Tundish Preparation
The Tundish Preparation operator is responsible for the relining, assembly, and heating of the tundish. This role ensures that the tundish is free of impurities, the nozzles are perfectly aligned, and the refractory lining can withstand the flow of molten steel for the entire casting duration. This position is essential for preventing "breakouts" and ensuring clean steel flow into the CCM molds.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience in tundish preparation or refractory work within a CCM environment.
- Refractory Expertise: Skilled in applying spray linings (tundish mass), installing permanent linings, and fitting furniture (dams, weirs, and impact pads).
- Technical Skills: Experience with nozzle fitting (Upper and Lower nozzles) and the installation of Well Blocks.
- Knowledge of Flow Control: Familiarity with Stopper Rod systems or Slide-gate mechanisms for tundishes.
- Detail-Oriented: Precision is required to ensure no moisture or loose debris remains in the tundish.
- Willingness to work in shifts.
Language
- Kurdish (required)
- English (is plus)
Key Responsibilities
- Tundish Relining: Apply refractory spray or dry lining material and ensure it is cured correctly to prevent steel penetration.
- Furniture Installation: Correctly place and secure "Dams" and "Weirs" inside the tundish to control the flow and allow inclusions to float to the surface.
- Nozzle Fitting: Install and align the tundish nozzles and Well Blocks accurately to ensure the steel stream enters the center of the mold.
- Stopper Rod / Shroud Setup: Assemble and calibrate the Stopper Rod system or Shroud for submerged entry, ensuring leak-proof connections.
- Tundish Preheating: Operate gas burners to preheat the tundish to the required temperature (usually above $1000^\circ\text{C}$) to prevent "freezing" during the start of the cast.
- Tundish Cleaning: Use oxygen lances or pneumatic tools to remove "skull" (solidified steel) and slag from the tundish after it is taken out of service.
- Moisture Control: Ensure the tundish is 100% dry; any moisture trapped in the refractory can cause a steam explosion when contact is made with molten steel.
- Safety & Housekeeping: Maintain the Tundish Bay area, ensuring all tools and emergency backup nozzles are ready for use.
